Pau Torres Pagès – Journalist

Academic Research

Pau’s academic research areas are Global Information Flows, Disinformation, Tech Policy, International Organizations, and Human Rights.


He currently holds a double appointment as a Graduate Research Assistant at New York University’s Center for Social Media and Politics and Center for Technology Policy. His work studies Artificial Intelligence Legislation and the effects of AI-powered tools. He has co-authored The State of State Technology Policy: 2024 Report.

In the past, he was also a Research Assistant at University Pompeu Fabra’s School of Communications and University Ramon Llull – Blanquerna’s Research Institute for Communication and International Relations.

During his stint at the fact-checking agency Verificat, he co-authored reports on disinformation during the 2024 Catalan Elections and the 2024 European Parliament Elections. The latter was part of the pan-European project Elections24Check, a collaboration between the European Fact-Checking Standards Network and Google News Initiative. For this initiative, Verificat was awarded an Honors Mention Award from the Catalan-European Journalist Association.

His undergraduate thesis (The Agenda of World News TV Channels: A comparative analysis of the international actors represented in the bulletins of Al Jazeera, BBC World, CGTN, CNN International, DW and RT) was presented at the 10th International Conference of Undergraduate Research and received Honors as the highest graded academic project of the cohort.

He was part of the team that designed the Standards and Ethics Guide for Diari de Barcelona.
